UTAH STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION NOTICE OF VACANCY/CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

Brief background of what the organization does and the reference in statute or rule establishing the organization: The Interpreter Certification Board is created to advise the State Board of Education concerning the certification of interpreters. The Utah Interpreter Program is responsible for conducting the interpreter for the Deaf quality assurance evaluation and development of the interpreter certification process as mandated by the Utah State Legislature and delegated by the Utah State Board of Education pursuant to UCA 53A-26a-201. The Certification Board is comprised of consumers and interpreters for the purpose of ensuring a fair and effective quality of American Sign Language interpretation services for Deaf individuals.
Who the group advises: The Utah State Board of Education, Utah Interpreter Program, and USOR Division of Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Number vacancies: Three (3)
Specific representation needed for each vacancy and terms of appointment: Certified Professional Interpreter for the Deaf (2) and Consumer (1)
Person(s) in position up for vacancy and their representation: Heather Roberts, Interpreter; Alisa Ensign, Certified Interpreter; Carol MacNicholl, Consumer.
Meetings (specific dates or how often the group meets, where, and for how long): Quarterly meetings, the first Wednesday of each month (Jan, April, July, October) at the Sanderson Community Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Taylorsville, 3:00-5:00 pm.
