C. Mark and Amy Openshaw, along with three of their children, Max, Ellie and Tanner, were returning home to Utah on Friday, June 12, 2015, after visiting family in Missouri when their plane tragically crashed on the runway. Five-year-old Max was the only survivor. Two older sons were not with the family that day.
In their memory, friends and colleagues on the Utah State Board of Education requested that the Utah Valley University Foundation establish the C. Mark and Amy Openshaw Annual Scholarship for the benefit of students attending UVU. This scholarship will benefit a student enrolled in the UVU School of Education with preference to those planning to serve as a K-12 teacher.
