Brief background of what the organization does and the reference in statute or rule establishing the organization: Pursuant to UCA 53A-24-405 and its current Bylaws, the Advisory Council to the Division of Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a 9- to 15-member council comprised of representatives who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing consumers, parents of children with hearing loss, and service providers. The purpose of the council is for members to bring feedback from their group of representation, share information with their community, and advise on the division’s program development and service delivery.

Who the group advises: The Division of Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH)

Number vacancies: Six to Twelve (the council has six current and upcoming vacancies for members whose terms expire in June, and could add up to six additional members to increase council size from the minimal 9 to the maximum 15).

Specific representation needed for each vacancy and terms of appointment:
The following are three year terms of current/upcoming vacancies, plus the council could be expanded by as much as six additional members to those listed below:
2 – Parent of Deaf/Hard of Hearing child – July, 2015 through June, 2018
1 – Service Provider – July, 2015 through June, 2018
3 – Deaf or Hard of Hearing Consumer – July, 2015 through June, 2018

Meetings (specific dates or how often the group meets, where, and for how long): Meetings are held quarterly on the third Wednesday of the month, 5:00-6:00 PM at the Sanderson Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Taylorsville, Utah. Participation through videoconferencing equipment is available.
