Brief background of what the organization does and the reference in statute or rule establishing the organization: Pursuant to UCA 53A-24-405 and its current Bylaws, the Advisory Council to the Division of Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a 9-15 member council comprised of representatives who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing consumers, parents of children with hearing loss, and service providers. The purpose of the council is for members to bring feedback from their group of representation, share information with their community, and advise on the division’s program development and service delivery.

Who the group advises: The Utah State Office of Rehabilitation, Division of Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH), and State Board of Education.

Number vacancies: One current vacancy due to a recent resignation of the representative from Washington County.

Specific representation needed for each vacancy and terms of appointment:
Deaf or Hard of Hearing Consumer (preferably from a county other than Salt Lake due to the number of current representatives from that area). The three-year term would begin when appointed in 2015 and go through June 2018.

Patrick Lien, Deaf Consumer from Washington County

Meetings (specific dates or how often the group meets, where, and for how long): Meetings are held monthly to semi-monthly on the third Wednesday of the month, 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the Sanderson Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Taylorsville, Utah. Participation through videoconferencing equipment is available.
