The Utah State Board of Education today launched a survey that asks the public what they believe are the most important qualifications and characteristics in a State Superintendent.
Survey results will be used to advertise for and appoint a new Superintendent of Public Instruction. It will remain online until April 20. Any Utah resident is invited to participate.
“The State Board values and wishes to invite input from the education community, including taxpayers, parents, educators and legislators. We hope advocates of public education take the opportunity to participate in this important process of appointing our State Superintendent,” said Board Member Mark Huntsman, chair of the Superintendent Selection Committee.
The committee was formed in March to find a successor to Brad Smith, who resigned as Superintendent earlier this year. It is comprised of 10 members of the State Board who anticipate conducting the search and interview process over the next 60-90 days. The full State Board will interview finalists and vote to appoint a new superintendent.
