State Board releases K-5 Library Media standards for 90-day public review

The Utah State Board of Education voted April 10, 2015, to release the K-5 Library Media standards for a 90-day public review. All members of the public are invited to view the standards and provide feedback.

A stakeholder committee began the review and revision of the K-5 Library Media standards in November of 2014 and met a total of five times. The K-5 standards have been aligned to the recently approved 6-12 Library Media standards. The current K-5 Library Media standards were adopted in 2000. The proposed new standards are arranged in three strands: Reading Engagement, Information and Research, and Media Literacy. More details about the development of standards can be found on the USOE Library Media webpage.

After reviewing the drafts, please provide feedback here.

Following the 90-day review period, revisions may be made based on feedback, and the standards will be presented to the Utah State Board of Education for final adoption.
