State Board requests public input on revised 6-8 science standards

The Utah State Board of Education voted Friday, Oct., 9, 2015, to send out the revised Science and Engineering Education Standards for grades 6-8 for an additional 30-day public review. Parents, educators, and other stakeholders are invited to read the proposed standards and provide comment. The review period will end Nov. 9, 2015.

The drafts documents were created to meet the needs articulated by Utah teachers, district science specialists, and higher education around the current science standards, incorporate cutting-edge research about how students best learn science, and meet the needs of students in the 21st century.

Once the 30-day public review has concluded, the teacher writing teams for science grades 6-8 will reconvene to respond to comments and revise the draft accordingly. The Utah State Board of Education anticipates revisiting the issue in its December meeting.
